the donna jean loy memorial Name Change Assistance Fund

Louisiana Trans Advocates maintains a small fund to support trans people in Louisiana with financial assistance to get their name changed. The fund is named after our former board member and co-founder Donna Jean Loy, who passed away in 2017.

The most recent round of name change assistance applications closed on February 9, 2018. Check back soon for the announcement for the next round of funding.

If you are selected, an LTA representative will be in touch with you to distribute funds. If you have legal concerns, advocates and attorneys will be available to assist you.

Leadership development

Louisiana Trans Advocates is an organization that was founded by young people with the support, guidance and mentorship of trans elders. Since our first meeting in Baton Rouge in 2011, we have valued the voices of young people in the trans community and uplifted those voices through our work.

Our leadership is made up of people who have come to Louisiana Trans Advocates for social support and found that LTA was much more than that. When you join LTA, you have an opportunity to be connected to trainings and resources to build skills that you can apply to the LGBTQ movement and beyond. Whether your interest is in mass communications or fundraising, community organizing or legislative advocacy, there are opportunities for all young trans people throughout Louisiana to learn new skills and join the fight for lived and legal equality.
