2nd Annual NOLA Trans March of Resilience

  • St. Phillip and Claiborne New Orleans, LA (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us November 20, 2019, for the 2nd annual NOLA Trans March of Resilience!

NOLA Trans March of Resilience is not only a rally and demonstration, but also a revolutionary movement. Open to people of all gender identities, expressions, and experiences, NOLA Trans March of Resilience welcomes everyone to join in this march for Justice, Equity and Liberation. Join us as we REMEMBER our loved ones and community members who have transitioned to ancestor; stand in solidarity and RESISTANCE against the hate, social injustice and inequality faced by Trans, Non-binary and Gender Non-conforming individuals; and honor our RESILIENCE as commUnity.

Issues such as the unsolved cases in our own city; hate violence, specifically against Trans Women and People of Color, and the lack of official concern; oppressive healthcare policies, media misgendering, financial and housing insecurity; police brutality, workplace policies and employment discrimination, and the lack of resources for Trans, Non-binary and Gender Non-conforming Youth and Elders, are just some of the concerns being voiced upon in this year's March.

Organized by members of NOLA's Trans, Non-binary and Gender Non-conforming communities and accomplices, this endeavor is committed to creating a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.

We are usually in the Board Room. So: go into the main entrance of the Acadiana Center for the Arts and go up the stairs. It's laid out as a square on the second floor. Follow the hall to the right and all the way to the back. It's the glassed in room and it says BOARD on the glass. Bathrooms are also in this area. If we aren't in that room, ask the front desk if we were moved or contact Peyton!

Trans and Gender Nonconforming Nerd Meetup

  • Tubby & Coo's Mid-City Book Shop (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Do you self identify as trans and/or gender nonconforming AND a nerd/geek? Join us for an evening of nerdy conversation and revelry at Tubby & Coo's! Bring your Star Trek-themed knitting, your Doctor Who outfit, and your opinions about science fiction and fantasy (or roleplaying games, or fan fiction, or the poems of Emily Dickinson, or birding, or the Age of Steam, or…?). We'll provide a room full of board games, some light refreshments, and good company!

Nerd culture is as broad and fathomless as human gender expression, so let’s spend an evening exploring both at once.

Civil Disobedience Training by Louisiana Bucket Brigade

  • First Unitarian Universalist Church of New Orleans (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

While this training is specifically focused on environmentalism and civil disobedience, the lessons learned could be easily applied to any social justice movement. We encourage anyone who is interested in growing their strategies for the movement for trans liberation to attend!

From Louisiana Bucket Brigade:

Grounded in our partnership with RISE St. James and the legacy of civil disobedience they carry, we will be hosting two civil disobedience trainings, one on Sunday Sept. 8th and the other on Sunday Sept. 22th.

The time is up for the oil, gas and chemical industry; we are working toward a transition from fossil fuels and dirty plastics. Every flood that hits New Orleans and our state, every inch of disappearing coast is evidence of why it's time to move on from these polluting industries.

Extinction Rebellion (XR) NOLA will do a presentation on the extent of the climate and ecological crisis at 5 pm, one hour before the training. This includes concrete ways to organize, ways which have been proven successful in recent history. XR Nola be there at 4:30pm to set up and chat if you're interested in getting more involved.

We hope you can join us as we prepare and mobilize to take our future back. And oil industry hacks (this means you, "issues managers!") the tide is turning - you should be worried!
